The sponsorship cheque was handed over to Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) by KBL marketing manager Mmabatho Dibe on Tuesday. Dibe said they have recognised the true greatness of the relationship that has existed between them and BoBA over the years.

She applauded BoBA for upgrading its image and re-branding itself to rise higher in the world of boxing both regionally and internationally. She said the boxing administrators have been easy to work with and that is why they have been supported by KBL for a long time. "BoBA is an outstanding organisation to work with. It is always pointed out in relationships that you give as good as you get," she said. This is the ninth year that KBL is sponsoring boxing through its Keone Mooka Mageu brand.

BoBA vice president for administration, Shakes Kebualemang said they highly appreciate efforts by companies like KBL to help improve sports in the country. He said Olympic style boxing, or amateur boxing is non-profitable and that is why they always appreciate help from the corporate world. "Unlike professional boxing, amateur boxers are not easy to market, but you cannot become a professional without having been an amateur first," he said. He added that they are in the process of establishing women boxing in the near future. He expressed hope that their plans for the establishment of professional boxing and construction of indoor facilities will be heeded by Parliament.

Giving a vote of thanks, BoBA president Aldrin Tayane said he hopes their relationship with KBL will extend further. He expressed gratitude to the boxers, whom he described as the cornerstone of the relationship, because their dedication and hard work inspires everyone. He added that the sponsorship did not come cheap. He thanked KBL for extending its generosity to boxing over the years.

Over 50 boxers from 13 clubs have qualified for this year's Keone Mooka Mageu tournament. The preliminary and semifinals of the competition are expected to take place in Mmadinare Community Hall this weekend. The finals are billed for the University of Botswana (UB) Student Union Hall next weekend. Gold medallists will pocket P1,000 each, while silver and bronze winners will get P500 and P200 respectively. The best boxer will get P1,000. The most promising boxer in the tournament will be rewarded with P700. The best coach, referee and judge will each get P600. The top club will pocket P20,000, runners-up P10,000 while position three gets P5,000.
